Congratulations to Caulfield Grammarians young gun, Marguerite Purcell, who was named the Round 5 Anytime Fitness Rising Star nominee.
What the club said:
Margie first started playing footy in Year 8 when, much to her excitement, she had heard that a group of primary school friends were starting a team with the Ashburton Redbacks. In 2018, Margie was selected for the Sandringham Dragons where she played for two years.
The year of 2019 was a significant period in Margie’s football development, where she got the opportunity to be apart of Caulfield Grammar School’s inaugural Girls Football team in the APS Sport competition of which CGS finished the year undefeated, to claim the Premiership. The year finished with Margie being invited to represent VIC Metro at the National Championships in Queensland – an experience she is extremely grateful for. Margie is currently a Western Bulldogs VFLW-listed player.
Margie has been one of the many shining lights for CGFC this year, with her fierce work in the contest and a never-give-up attitude in defence, she compliments her desperate defensive efforts with her incredible pace and drive off the half-back line – echoing many similarities to the GWS Giant’s Elle Bennetts or Geelong’s Tom Stewart.
