Scotch upset Blues, SKOB back to their best

Scotch upset Blues, SKOB back to their best

Old Scotch delivered the upset of Round 6 in William Buck Premier when they defeated University Blues by 21 points at McQueen Park. It was an astonishing display of inaccuracy from the reigning premiers as they kicked 1.14 (20) in the first three quarters before finishing the game with 5.18 (48) to the Cardinals’ 10.9 (69). Aidan Franetic and Brodie Easton were outstanding for Scotch in their third win of the season while Jack Stephens stood out for the Blues across half back.

St Kevin’s OB produced their most complete performance of the season with a 74-point win over Old Melburnians at Elsternwick Park. After losing Tom Boyd prior to the match, SKOB made forced changes to their forward set-up and it paid immediate dividends as Sam Critchley went forward and kicked the first goal of the day. It was closely followed by two Billy Kanakis goals as SKOB opened up a 38-point lead at the first break before piling on another 12 to six thereafter. Tom Jok and Cal Matheson found plenty of the ball for SKOB, while Ed Nichols continued his outstanding form for OM’s following his Round 1 Rising Star nomination.

Caulfield Grammarians made it three wins in a row when they defeated St Bernard’s by 32 points at the Snake Pit. The Fields led by seven points heading into the fourth quarter before closing the game out with four unanswered goals. With Julian Dobosz out of this week’s side, Keegan Stewart took over in front of goal and finished the day with four, while Will Edwards starred in another BOG display. Mitchell Mahady and Charlie Vague impressed for the Snow Dogs as they slumped to their third straight loss.

Old Xaverians re-entered the winners’ column as they accounted for Collegians by 59 points at Toorak Park. Five goals to one in the first term set the scene for the day as Xavs maintained a safe distance throughout the match. Ryan Schoenmakers went forward and booted a game-high four goals for Xavs while Xavier Richards kicked two in his first game. Tylar Atkinson and Viv Michie were the best of the Lions as they linger on just the one win from six games.

Four goals from Seb Williams helped Old Brighton to their fifth win of the season, defeating Old Trinity by 11 points at the Daley Oval. The T’s, who were playing their first game under interim senior coach James Francis, led by eight points at half time but failed to hold on as the ladder leaders came home with five goals to three. Harry Hill starred alongside Williams for the Tonners, while  Charlie Beasley and Dylan Xenos were the best for the T’s.
