Down by 9 points with one quarter to play, the home team came to life in the final stanza, putting on 2.2 whilst holding the Blues to a solitary point. Alison Youlten was instrumental in the fightback, and Emma Morison put in another impressive performance. Ella Stephenson couldn’t quite match her goal tallies of previous weeks but was among the best for Monash.
Over at Brunswick St Oval, Collegians were comfortable 19-point winners over Fitzroy–ACU. They led at every change, extending their ascendency right until the final siren thanks to two goal efforts from Anuschka Reinhardt and Emily Sainty. Sally Hood was Collegians best.
The surprise result of the round came from Old Camberwell, as the Wellers ground out a win over Beaumaris by 5 points. The Sharks have been the scoring powerhouse so far this year, and their 13-0 lead at quarter time suggested that they were set to kick a large winning score yet again. However, Camberwell refused to be a part of this narrative, kicking the only three goals for the rest of the game to claim a memorable victory. Eloise Defina was best on for the Wellers, whilst Maggie Wilson and Eva Fisher provided notable contributions. Caley Ryan starred for the Sharks.
To cap off Round 6, the Mugars dismantled Yarra Old Grammarians by 52 points. The Bushrangers were unable to register a score, completed powerless against Melbourne Uni’s rampage. Asha Price was the main beneficiary of this dominance, slotting three majors, as Emma Delaney and Alanna Dalley also starred.
This result has Melbourne University sitting clear at the top of the table, followed by Old Geelong and Beaumaris. Every team has at least two wins, by the Bushrangers now sit at the foot of the table on percentage.
