Yarra Old Grammarians claimed their second win for the season when they defeated Bulleen Templestowe by 84 points at Ted Ajani Reserve. The Bushrangers burst out of the blocks with 11 goals to two in the opening half before piling on another 12 to six thereafter. Their 23 goals were shared among Rory Harbeck (4), Jack Hall (3), Ryan Pollard (3), Matt Young (3) and Ben Trend (3), while another three kicked two each. Hall was named best afield for his standout display alongside Matt Stone. The win allows Yarra to jump into seventh spot on the ladder, while the Bullants continue to search for their first win after a luckless start to the year.
The offensive juggernaut that is MHSOB lit up yet again in their Round 7 clash against Aquinas as they ran out 114-point winners at Aquinas College. The score line reads bizarrely after the Unicorns failed to score in the opening term but went on to kick 21 goals to two thereafter. Ashan Wijayakumara continued his dominant form in front of goal with a match-high five taking his tally to 32, while Mason Fennessy-Kent (4), Lachlan Dowling (3), and Christopher Burton (3) each found the goals and were named among the best players. It is the fifth time this year the Unicorns have kicked 132 points or more. Jacob Burdett continued his outstanding form for the Bloods with two of their three goals and plenty of the ball. They now fall into eighth spot on the ladder after Yarra’s win.
The unbeaten start to the season continued for Glen Eira as they defeated Ivanhoe AFC by six goals at Packer Reserve. The Gryphons led by just one goal at half time before eight unanswered in the third term stamped the Magpies’ papers. Callum Drenth sits second on the goal kicking leader board after he kicked another four for the Gryphons while Matthew Wilkins and Stuart Carey combined for their strongest performances this year. The fifth-placed Hoers were led beautifully by Ash Close and his five majors, as well as Connor O’Brien and Gerrard Williams.
West Brunswick worked their way back into the top four following their 62-point win over Power House at Ransford Oval. Despite wayward kicking from the Westies in the first term (1.7) and four goals from the House giving them a 13-point lead at the first break, the Westies straightened up and piled on 14 to two thereafter, including a six-goal third term. Ben Collins was BOG for the Westies for the second time in three matches, while Stephen Wall led all comers with four goals. Brendan Wright was once again a standout for the House as they sit in ninth spot on the ladder with one win for the season.
Old Paradians cemented third spot on the Division 2 ladder with a hard-fought 41-point victory over Manningham Cobras at Koonung Reserve. Trailing by nine points at the first break, Parade started making their run in the second and third term before kicking away with five goals to two in the final quarter. James Penny starred for Parade in a BOG display, while Anthony Cafari (4) was their main target up forward. Dylan Cawsey came in for his first game and kicked three goals for the Cobras alongside impressive performance from Joshua Norris and Luke Morris.
