Out of a lockdown we emerge, straight into the action and intensity of a footy finals series.
Finals spots were very much up for grabs with a couple of rounds left in the home and away season, but the fast starters of the competition will now be thankful that they banked early wins.
The Premier B top four remains as it did those weeks ago by default: Melbourne University, Old Geelong, Beaumaris and Fitzroy.
As such, the Mugar’s and OG’s will play off in Semi-Final 1, followed by the Sharks against the Roy’s.
Melbourne Uni v Old Geelong
This matchup is a tale of two form lines. Old Geelong have been consistent, never really hitting a proper hot streak or falling into a rut. On the other hand, Melbourne Uni built into their season, performing better and better as the weeks passed.
Based on this, it is hard to bet against the team who have peaked at the right time and taken three more wins than any other side. The Mugar’s will also have the home advantage, an undeniable bonus in the atmosphere of a final.
Beaumaris v Fitzroy
Beaumaris were the team to beat out of the gate. They scored more freely than anyone could have expected off the back of a season without football and put sides away on their home turf with relative ease. This intimidating profile seemed to fade later in the season though, and Beaumaris fell back with the pack.
Fitzroy have had to scrap for their finals berth. They have scored less points than they have conceded and been on the right side of tight encounters often. This could be seen as a weakness but winning close games can serve as a perfect finals tune up.
Its hard to know which Beaumaris and which Fitzroy will show up, but based on their scoring power the Sharks are likely favourites.
