Williamstown CYMS is on the lookout for a new senior coach after two-time premiership mentor, Mat Montebello, recently declared he is stepping down from the role.
Making the announcement on social media last week in conjunction with the departure of Reserves Coach Cameron Oates, the CYs wrote that “as coaches and mentors of the CYs community, Mat and Cam have been exceptional contributors”.
“Thanks to the work undertaken by both Mat and Cam, the club has experienced a great level of success and is well placed going forward.”
Montebello, who was also the club’s Director of Coaching, commenced his tenure with the CYs in 2011 and led the senior men’s team to flags in 2014 (Division 1) and 2019 (Premier C).
His most recent success culminated in the VAFA Premier Men’s Coach of the Year Award after leading the CYs to an undefeated season and into Premier B for the first time in their 37-year history.
Oates leaves his post after leading them to the 2019 Premier C reserves premiership after carving out an incredible playing career that includes the 2014 flag.
The VAFA congratulates both Mat and Cameron on their outstanding careers and contribution to the CYs.
