Our VAFA Umpires are always busy in September and this year is no different – ok very different – now we’re staying active with the Strava #CheckInChallenge.
The Facebook of the fitness world, where users post their activities for followers to give ‘kudos’ and comment, Strava has been vital for our group to stay in touch with each other through lockdowns and motivate everyone to stay active.
This #CheckInChallenge rewarded the Top 10 most active Strava members by activity time, over a 7-day period with a $25 UberEats voucher supported by the VAFAUA. Though umpires normally playing the part of impartial adjudicator, they do get competitive, with no added incentive for coming first or second, Premier Squad Umpire Ollie Bell did 3kms worth of post curfew laps in his driveway in the dying hours of the challenge last Sunday night to clinch bragging rights with a total of 15 hours 33 minutes over the 7 days edging out Boundary Umpire Coach Asha Hinton by just 6 minutes!
The Strava fun continues for the rest of September with the Strava Art Challenge where umpires must make a picture with their activity on Strava and post to the group. Thanks to the wonderful support of valued VAFA sponsor BASE Compression, winners will share in $500 in prizes. Here is just one of the awesome submissions so far, and plenty have been planning there next design to take the glory in the last week of the challenge that ends at midnight on Sunday October 3. Have a go yourself using the Strava Route Planner now!
