Preston Bullants have announced their replacement for outgoing premiership coach, George Wakim, with recent U19s mentor, George Cotsonis, set to lead the senior men’s team in 2022.
Cotsonis, who played 11 seasons with Old Carey, joined the Bullants’ senior side as runner in 2018 before assisting Wakim in 2019. He’s spent the past two years in charge of the U19s.
“George Wakim’s hugely successful career with the club has left huge shoes to fill for any incoming coach, and the importance of that has been recognised by the club,” Preston said.
“Cotsy is a local resident with strong associations within the Preston community and is passionate about seeing the club continue its success and development.
“With a strong ability to form connections with players and members of the PBAFC community, Cotsy will lead the charge as we move into 2022.”
The Bullants struggled in their first season of Premier C football and finished winless from their 11 games.
Prior to that, however, the Bullants boast an incredible record in the VAFA with four senior men’s premierships since becoming a senior club in 2013. They won flags in 2013 (Div 4), 2014 (Div 3), 2016 (Div 2) and most recently in 2019 (Div 1).
