Old Melburnians will enter Melbourne Cup week in a canter after they secured the services of former VFL captain and premiership player, Dan Coffield.
The talented defender will join the club on a full-time basis after captaining Sandringham FC in 2021 where he played alongside another OM’s star.
“Dan was highly recommended to us by Sammy Dunell from their time together at Sandringham,” OM’s coach Paul Satterley said.
“A super impressive young man, we all left the meeting very hopeful that Dan would join us. This is a great day for our football club.”
Prior to his time with Sandy, Coffield played 62 games with Richmond VFL and won the club’s Guinane Medal as the 2019 B&F in the same year they won the VFL premiership. He polled 56 votes to finish ahead of Jacob Townsend (54) and Old Trinity’s Hugh Beasley (52).
Coffield will form an incredible backline alongside Josh Freezer and Oscar Hosking.
OM’s won five of their 11 games in 2021 and sat in sixth spot on the William Buck Premier ladder when the season was prematurely cancelled due to COVID.
