VAFA announces ‘Education Workshop Series’

By VAFA Media · November 12, 2021
VAFA announces ‘Education Workshop Series’

The VAFA is excited to announce a series of education workshops to support its member clubs committee members and volunteers. The “Education Workshop Series” has been created to support clubs in key areas of club development. In July the VAFA delivered a Club Development Health Check to all clubs and a summary of the findings from this health check revealed that:

  • 77% of clubs do NOT have any forms of succession planning in place for Committee roles
  • 47% of clubs do NOT have any clear strategy to recruit or retain volunteers or players
  • 30% of clubs do NOT have any form of Strategic Plan (or have one in planning)
  • 59% of clubs did NOT have any form of marketing plans
  • 53% of clubs did NOT have a person to help manage Volunteers at the club
  • 49% of clubs did NOT have Position Descriptions or Roles and Responsibilities for members of their committee

Of the 9 pillars that the Club Development Health Check addressed the top 3 that needed attention were

  1. Volunteer Management
  2. Recruitment and Retention
  3. Governance

With these findings in mind, plus insights from VAFA Advisory groups, club discussions, and other various forums the “Education workshop Series” was developed.  The Education Workshop Series will be supported by “Sports Community” and will look to cover key club development topics with 11 workshops planned over the next 2 seasons targeting topics such as:

  • Volunteer Management
  • Succession Planning
  • Strategic Planning
  • Financial Management
  • Developing Partnerships
  • Fundraising and revenue generation
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Recruitment and Retention of Players
  • Managing Conflict
  • Grant Writing and Grant applications
  • Diversity and Inclusion

The first Workshop’s in this series will form a 3-part “Club Committee and Leadership Program” that will cover 3 sessions over 3 evenings.

Session 1 – Attracting and retaining volunteers – Monday November 29th, 7pm – 8pm (Online)

Session 2 – Unlocking the power of strategic planning – Monday February 14th, 7pm – 8pm (Venue TBC)

Session 3 – Structure follows strategy – Monday February 28th , 7pm – 8pm (Venue TBC)

This 3-part series is ideal for newly formed committees, committees with multiple incumbent members or clubs who have identified the 3 topics above as key areas to address.

These workshops are FREE and only available to VAFA clubs. All clubs are encouraged to engage with workshops that align to their interests and needs.
