Premier B Men’s 2022 Season Preview

By VAFA Media · March 31, 2022
Premier B Men’s 2022 Season Preview

Eliza Wright

After 2 years of uncertainty, the 2022 season is finally upon us. A challenging year in 2021 has every team eagerly awaiting the return to community sport, optimistic for a successful year.

A shortened season saw only 11 games played in 2021. The Uni Blacks finished on top of the ladder after only one loss. Beaumaris and Old Haileybury were hot on their heels, both wrapping up the seasons with 9 wins. After an unsuccessful year for the Parkdale Vultures, they enter Premier C for the upcoming season, creating a new challenge for teams as they prepare for a bye in Premier B.

Uni Blacks

After an outstanding 2021 season was cut short, The Uni Blacks return this year with unfinished business. The minor premiers are a force to be reckoned with as they look to translate the strong bonds they have created during preseason, into continued wins on the board – with the ultimate goal of a return to William Buck Premier.

Beaumaris

After finishing the shortened year in the top 2, The Sharks will look to build on an extremely successful 2021. The catalyst will be their defensive ability as their fortress down back sets the tone for the rest of their team. Lead by experienced coach Guy McKenna, Beaumaris will be a strong side in 2022.

Old Haileybury

The hardworking bloods are entering the 2022 season with confidence and exhilaration. Motivated by their success in 2021, their eyes are set firmly on the prize. The re-appointment of coach Daniel Ward as well as the singing of Ex-Saint Jack Lonie has the club enthusiastic about the upcoming season.

De La Salle

Ending the year 4th on the ladder, De La are determined to build on their achievements in 2021. Their powerful midfield is a cut above and will provide a challenge for every engine room across this league. After a solid preseason, De La are certainly one to watch this year.

St Bedes/Mentone

The return of Steve D’Andrea to lead the Tigers in 2022 has the playing group hopeful for a positive year both on and off the field. With high rates of player retention, St Bedes/Mentone are looking to capitalise on the close games they had last year and convert them into wins. Entering the first round with a bye, the Tigers are patiently waiting to hit the ground running in round 2.

Fitzroy

Looking to build off the momentum they created at the end of 2021, the Roys are fighting fit and pumped for the year ahead. Co-captains in Jack Hart and Julian Turner instil new club president David Leydon with confidence that 2022 will see them climb the ladder.

Williamstown

Williamstown CYMS are set to enter the 2022 season with a fresh-faced team. What this young side lacks in age, they make up for with speed and grit. With their new leader Con Terzoglou stepping up from coaching the Under 19s and Ron Rooney appointed as director of coaching, they are hopeful that this season will be a successful one.

AJAX

A positive and motivating preseason has AJAX rearing to go for round one. The long break has players keen to get back on the grass. AJAX are placing continued focus on their younger players with fingers crossed 2022 firmly cements their place in Premier B.

Old Carey

Placing high value in their under 19s players, the Panthers are hoping to change their luck from last season. This young side with plenty of flair are looking to hit their targets and show continued improvement throughout the year. Their well-documented school program has some exciting players coming through the ranks – don’t be surprised if they cause an upset or two.
