Oliver’s passion for amateur football stems largely from his interest in the origins of English football and its roots back to northern England in the mid 1800’s, particularly the dichotomy between upper class Eton college students and typical factory and mill workers who later formed professional clubs as factory teams in industrial towns. To Oliver, the story captures sport as a level playing field, accessible to all regardless of background, socio-economic status, race, religion or upbringing.
