Last week saw the return of the traditional Big V Lunch at the RACV City Club, where those who have represented the Amateurs gathered to celebrate their past glories and honour some select individuals.
It was the first time the luncheon has been held since 2019, with two Big V Inductees to welcome:
Tim Sutcliffe (Umpire) Tim joined the VAFA in 1992 and umpired 360 games before retiring at the end of 2011. He umpired a total of eleven grand finals and umpired 14 Representative matches including touring Ireland.
Rick Pisarski (Old Melburnians) Rick played 10 games with the Big V between 1977 – 1982 and was renowned as a cool and reliable defender under pressure with a strong mark. He was recognised with selection as the All-Australian Amateur full-back.
There was also an elevation from a Big V Champion, to a Big V Legend:
Bruno Conti (North Old Boys) Bruno played 16 representative games (1986, 89, 90, 91, 93, 93, 94). He received the best player award for Victoria v South Australia in 1990 and was named as an All-Australian in both 1989 and 1991. Bruno also served as a Big V Selector for 13 games over 9 years with the 1998 C-D4 team and from 1999-2006 with the senior team.
On behalf of the VAFA, we congratulate these three men on their induction and elevation. We hope to have representative football return to the VAFA as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
