Following a nail biter clash in the reserves clash between Box Hill North and Swinburne moments prior, viewers were hoping for a close encounter between both senior sides. In the first quarter, we saw a close battle between both sides with both teams kicking three goals each. The second quarter saw the Razorbacks begin to find a groove as they added on another three goals whilst keeping the Demons scoreless for the quarter.
Leading by 28 coming into the third quarter, it was a see-sawing contest during the third term. The fourth quarter however saw the Razorbacks swing the game completely in their favour kicking six goals whilst only allowing two goals to come from the Demons.
The Razorbacks were the ones that ran out winners by 54 points which will give them confidence come the first week of finals.
Marcus Lorkin, Thomas Rickard and Joshua Best were amongst the best for the Demons. The best for the Razorbacks included Aidan Vesty, Zachary Lassey and Zachary Cooke. Joshua Best kicked 2 majors for the Demons with other goal kickers including Beau Parthenides and Eugene Charles who both kicked a goal. Aidan Vesty had 5 majors for the Razorbacks and other goal kickers included Zachary Cooke (2) and Harrison Bernardo (2). Box Hill North will now look to recruit well over the offseason and take another shot at the premiership in 2023. Swinburne’s season continues and they will face La Trobe in a qualifying final.
Despite both Albert Park and Eley Park being out of finals contention, both teams were hungry to end this season with a win. Albert Park got off to the stronger start with a four goal to one first quarter to take a 24-point lead into the first break. The second quarter saw Eley Park begin to find their footing with two goals however the Falcons were able to kick four goals of their own to take a 43-point into halftime.
The third quarter followed a similar story as the Falcons outclassed the Sharks during the third quarter kicking four goals whilst only allowing one goal from the Sharks to take a 67-point lead into the final break. The final quarter saw the Falcons take charge of the match as they were able to add six goals to their tally whilst only allowing two goals from the Sharks. As a result, it was the Falcons that were able to run away with a dominant 93-point victory over Eley Park.
The best for the Falcons included Jack Lee, Jack Twite and Thomas Smith. Eley Park’s best included Shannon Blewitt, Terrence Dingeldei and Andrew Yeo. Jack Lee was massive in front of goal for the Falcons with 8 majors. Other goal kickers include Sam Lee, Jack Twite and Brett Tottenham who all kicked 2 goals. Kristian Dinas had two majors for the Sharks. Individual goal scorers included Stephen Roberts and Alex Devlin.
The only sneak peek at finals in this final round was what was set to be an exciting matchup between St Johns and La Trobe. The Trobers got off to a quick start in the first quarter kicking five goals whilst only allowing a pair of goals to come from the JOCs. In the second quarter, La Trobe was able to add another goal to extend their lead to 25 points. However, during the second quarter, a bad injury forced the rest of the game to be cancelled. Despite being up by 25 points, at the time of the stoppage, not enough time had been played so the match was ruled as a draw.
The best for the JOCs included Corey Ely, Brendan Ash and Ethan Hope. The best for the Trobers included Riley Alexander, Will Lowry and Connor McCredden. Jason Naffa and Michael Horton were the goal scorers for the JOCs with 1 goal each. Riley Alexander became the divisions leading goal kicker with 4 goals to take his season tally to 68.
St Johns will now take on Masala in an elimination final, a team they have defeated twice during the 2022 season. La Trobe will now take on Swinburne a side that they have defeated twice during the season.
