The Victorian Amateur Football Association is saddened by the passing of VAFA and Ormond Life Member, Jack Wilson.
Jack was a loyal servant to the VAFA over a long period and had a distinguished career with Ormond AFC as a player and U19 coach. He passed away last Thursday 9th February, aged 93.
The VAFA recognises his contribution to the Association as an umpire from 1953 to 1960, tribunal member from 1980 to 2012 and long-serving finals gate attendant.
He was also one of the boundary umpires in the VAFA vs. VFL/VFA Amateur Players Demonstration Match at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Jack received Life Membership of the Victorian Amateur Football Association in 2005.
His significant contribution to the Ormond Amateur Football Club will be missed.
He was a member of the Club as a player and coach throughout the years and was awarded Life Membership of the Club.
He won the inaugural under 19 Best & Fairest in 1948, and coached the inaugural VJAFA team in 1961, which played in the VFL thirds side.
He was also appointed Chief Executive Officer at Elsternwick Park for 1968 (attending each Saturday) at the VAFA’s new Headquarters that were established that year.
Jack’s service and contribution to the sport and organisation doesn’t go unrecognised. He will be sadly missed at EE Gunn Reserve and throughout the VAFA community.
The funeral service for Jack Wilson will be held Friday 17th February from 9.30am at Boyd Chapel, Springvale Botanic Cemetery, 600 Princes Hwy, Springvale.
