The VAFA, Australia’s oldest and largest senior football competition, has an exciting position available for an Umpire Recruitment Officer and is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to fill this rewarding role.
The successful candidate will have previous experience in umpiring and conducting presentations to large groups. This is a casual position within the Umpire Coaching Team and will report directly to the VAFA Umpire Operations Manager, Stephen Privitera.
Role Summary
- Engage with athletics clubs, junior leagues, past players, schools and universities to promote the benefits of joining VAFA umpiring.
- Conduct on field introductory training sessions for prospective umpires, including school and university come and try days.
- Host information sessions at schools and universities to answer questions from students.
- Ensure recruitment is spread across all three Umpire Disciplines (Boundary, Field and Goal).
- Conduct regular catch ups with new umpires to ensure they are supported.
- Note: this role does not have any active coaching role with an umpire squad and the successful applicant will not coach individual umpires in any capacity.
Experience and Qualifications
Required:
- Established background in umpiring with a sound knowledge of all AFL Laws of the Game.
- Minimum of 2 years of on field umpiring experience at senior level.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills to a variety of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- A preparedness to visit schools and universities during the week.
- Developed IT and negotiation skills.
