On Tuesday night the Tackle Your Feelings Program kicked off for 2023 with the first workshop being undertaken by Old Scotch FC at Scotch College.
As part of the evening those in attendance heard from Tackle Your Feelings Ambassador, Leon Cameron, who shared how he got involved in the Tackle Your Feelings program, what he is currently up to with the Sydney Swans, the challenges of building an AFL team in a predominantly Rugby League marketplace and the challenges associated with the defeat in the 2019 Grand Final.
Leon also supported the delivery of the first “Players” workshop in 2023 which had 60 participants and discussed how to understand, recognise and respond to mental ill health. With 1 in 5 adults in Australia experiencing some form of diagnostic mental illness in the last 12 months, the education through the workshop is more important and relevant than ever.
The Tackle Your Feelings workshops are in the first instance delivered to Coaches, Committee members and people of influence at clubs with the VAFA being involved in a select number of Player workshops in 2023 for clubs who have already completed the Coaches workshop.
If your club has a strong value of supporting players’ Mental Health and values the Player Welfare space please consider a Tackle Your Feelings workshop in 2023.
To express your interest in a workshop please complete this form or reach out to VAFA Clubs & Community Manager, Sean Walker.
