The start of the 2023 football season is only four weeks away and the VAFA is recruiting new Boundary, Field and Goal umpires. There has never been a better time to join VAFA Umpiring, with a large number of games requiring umpires each weekend.
Our umpires had their first taste of footy for the year over the weekend with practice matches being held in preparation for the opening round on Saturday, April 15.
Once you sign up with the VAFA, you will join a group of over 450 passionate and supportive umpires. You will learn the basics of umpiring, attend training to learn practical on field skills, and umpire games of football at clubs in your local area.
The VAFA is proud of the pathways it has created running alongside the AFL, the VFL/W and the Coates Talent League. An opportunity afforded to nine VAFA umpires at the conclusion of the 2022 VAFA season, elevated to the State League Umpire Program.
The latest initiative from the VAFA umpiring department, in a first for the organisation, will see all new umpires joining the VAFA to receive their uniform free of charge.
