On the back of the coaching announcements last week, the VAFA is pleased to confirm that nominations are now open for the Men’s and Women’s representative matches being played against Perth Football League on Saturday 15th July at Elsternwick Park.
Clubs can nominate a maximum of five (5) players from their Senior Men’s team and five (5) players from their Senior Women’s team for inclusion in the initial Representative Football playing squad.
To be eligible to play in the Representative Match, a player must have played a minimum of five (5) matches in the current calendar year up to 14th July in the League they wish to represent in the Representative Match.
Paul Groves, 2018 AFLW Premiership Coach has been given the honour to coach the Senior Women’s side. Expressing his honour and pride on Inside the Boundary of his appointment to the role “I’m looking for women that want to play, to wear a Big V jumper and keep it. Women who will involve themselves in the process, be immersed in it. We just want to create a really dynamic program that makes us really proud.”
Greg Hutchison, returns to the coaching fold in the VAFA for the first time after standing down as coach of Old Brighton at the conclusion of the 2022 season. Affectionately known as ‘Hutch’ he was very humbled to receive the call from VAFA CEO Jason Reddick telling him of his appointment to the role.
“I was humbled and I was quite flattered by it. It’s certainly a terrific opportunity to stay involved in the game and give something back in a very small way” Hutch said on this weeks edition of For the Love of the Game.
The VAFA and the coaching staff also have discretion to include eligible and available players into the squad even if they were not nominated by their club.
Nominations close Monday 12th June with the initial squad announced shortly afterwards.
