Big V Senior Women’s Squad Announced

The VAFA is pleased to announce the Senior Women’s squad for this year’s Big V representative match against the Perth Football League on Saturday, July 15 at Elsternwick Park.

Representative footy returns to the VAFA for the first time since 2019. With the Senior Women’s side aiming to keep their unblemished record intact.

Three wins, from their previous three matches. Including a 151 point win over AFL Goldfields, the last time they took to the field.

The Senior Women’s side will be coached by 2018 AFLW Premiership coach, Paul Groves. He will be supported by Erini Gianakopoulos, Deborah Konopnicki and Luke O’Brien.

The coaching staff, along with the VAFA selection committee have selected a squad of 48 women from 22 clubs across Premier Women’s – Division 4 Women’s.

Paul Groves told VAFA Media of his excitement in calibre of the squad that’s been selected “Our coaching and selection panel are extremely excited by the quality of women who have put their hands up to represent the competition”

“We had a total of 167 nominations from clubs and we thank them for taking such an active part in the process. Our squad of 48 represents a wide variety of players from all across the competition. We look forward to beginning the preparation this coming Monday night.”

2022 reigning premiers St Kevin’s, grand final runners up Kew, as well as Melbourne University Women’s feature the most prominently with five selections from each club. Coburg, in their inaugural year also has a representative.
