Ahead of the VAFA’s Big V Representative clash vs. Perth Football League, the VAFA is pleased to announce Josh Freezer (Old Melburnians) and Bree Doyle (St Kevin’s) have been selected to lead the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s side on Saturday at Elsternwick Park.
Senior Men’s coach Greg Hutchison made the announcement on Tuesday night’s training session to Josh and the playing group, in front of guest speaker, and 1988 Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy.
It is the second time Freezer will lead the Big V out onto the field, retaining the captaincy after being given the honour in 2019. The last time representative football was played in the VAFA.
Senior Men’s coach Greg Hutchison telling VAFA Media Freezer ticks every box when it comes to his leadership attributes.
“He’s been outstanding, stalwart of the competition and a great representative of the Big V. It’s a great honour for Freeze again.” Hutchison said.
Doyle is a two-time Premiership player with St Kevin’s, and has continued to take her game to new heights in 2023. Being selected as the captain of the side was one of the more simpler decisions Groves has made throughout this year’s Big V program.
“Watching a lot of their games, this girl is someone that I want to play for.” Groves told VAFA Media.
“She just exudes leadership out there. Her acts she does on the field, always picking her teammates up.” He continued.
Amy Duguid (Coburg Lions) and Jade Wise (Old Scotch) make up the leadership group of the Big V Women’s side.
Hutchison is expected to announce the Senior Men’s remaining leadership group position on Thursday night.
Tickets are now on sale for Saturday’s representative double-header and official match day function.
