Top four continue march to finals

The VAFA Premier B Women’s competition continued to deliver exciting action in Round 16, with four compelling matches as we approach finals.

In the match of the round at Jubilee Park, Aquinas OC emerged victorious against Old Yarra Cobras by 27 points. A four goal second quarter was the difference, as they went on to kick seven goals to three in what should give the girls plenty of confidence ahead of the finals series.

Hogg stood out for Aquinas, contributing three crucial goals to their final score, while H. Spicer added two more to the tally. M. Dargan and L. McHugh also made valuable contributions with their goals. Old Yarra Cobras fought hard throughout the game, but they couldn’t match Aquinas’ intensity. P. Cula-Reid, A. Murray, and T. Limburg scored their team’s goals.

Monash Blues demonstrated their dominance with a convincing victory over Richmond Central. Monash controlled the game from the beginning, building a solid lead and maintaining their advantage until the final siren.

Draffin and N. Newman led the scoring for Monash, each contributing a goal. A. Purtill, S. Bingham, and A. Hansen played pivotal roles in their team’s success, delivering standout performances.

Despite their best efforts, Richmond Central struggled to gain momentum, managing only one goal for the match. E. Seymour-Pessah scored their lone goal, showcasing resilience in the face of a tough opponent.

St Bedes/Mentone Tigers put on a dominant display against Mazenod, securing a convincing victory. The Tigers controlled the game right from the start, preventing Mazenod from gaining any foothold.

Pearson was the standout performer for the Tigers, scoring three goals and playing a pivotal role in their team’s success. M. Tilley and M. Wilson added two goals each, showcasing their scoring prowess.

Despite their efforts, Mazenod OC struggled to find their rhythm on offense, failing to score a goal. St Bedes/Mentone’s solid defence and organized attack proved to be too much to handle.

Brunswick emerged victorious in a tightly contested match against nearby rivals North Brunswick. Despite the low-scoring affair, the match was filled with intensity and determined efforts from both sides, as is always the case in this match-up.

Sullivan played a crucial role for Brunswick, contributing two goals to their final tally. N. Kingi and A. Ross added one goal each, helping their team secure the victory.

Bentley scored North Brunswick’s lone goal, displaying their determination to compete against a strong opponent. Despite the result, both teams showcased their skills and resilience, making for an engaging contest.

Two rounds remain in the home & away season, with the top four already set and those teams looking to build ahead of the business end of the season.
