The VAFA is delighted to be partnering with the Good Friday Appeal (GFA) for the first time to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH); a cause close to the hearts of many within the VAFA community. The VAFA has its own fundraising page should you wish to donate to the GFA.
The Good Friday Appeal, established in 1931, has become a cornerstone of charitable efforts in Victoria. Held annually on Good Friday, the appeal raises funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, supporting its vital work in providing world-class care to sick children and their families. Over the years, it has garnered widespread support from individuals, businesses, and organisations alike, becoming one of Australia’s most iconic fundraising events.
The decision by the VAFA to endorse the Good Friday Appeal is a natural extension of its longstanding dedication to community engagement. By aligning with such a renowned charitable initiative, the association not only amplifies the reach of the appeal but also demonstrates its unwavering commitment to giving back to society.
Football and community sport have always had a strong synergy with the Good Friday Appeal. Fittingly, the first campaign to raise funds for the RCH was through a football match involving competing jockeys from Flemington and Caulfield, followed by a game with WW1 Veterans’ representing the North and the South of the Yarra.
Furthermore, the VAFA’s official print/media partner, Herald Sun actively endorse the Good Friday Appeal, with Herald Sun AFL Premiership posters raising funds for the GFA since 1953.
As the VAFA and the Good Friday Appeal join forces this year, this partnership serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of collaboration. This endorsement not only honours its rich history but also paves the way for a future where sports and philanthropy continue to intersect for the greater good.
Join us in making a difference this Good Friday. Donate generously to the Good Friday Appeal and help bring hope and healing to sick children and their families. Together, we can harness the power of community to make a positive impact.
