As we approach Mother’s Day this weekend, VAFA clubs will turn their off-field attention to supporting a long-standing partnership with BCNA by raising funds to support people impacted by Breast Cancer.
Over the weekend Canterbury Football Club hosted a Pink Ladies Day to raise funds for BCNA. The Club has been touched by Breast Cancer in recent years and the ability to raise funds and continue the conversation about Breast Cancer awareness is what drives the club to host such important events.
Held at Canterbury Sports ground, the day included a lunch supported by a guest panel made up of two time Olympian and now Richmond AFLW player, Tessa Lavey, Canterbury Cobras alumni and Head Psychologist at North Melbourne FC, Mary Spillane as well as VAFA Vice President, Sarah Delbosc. The day was also supported by vocalist Jess Tyler and her guitarist, Hui, with Vicki Durston, current VAFA director and director at BCNA as the keynote speaker.
The lunch and day of football was a resounding success with $4,120 raised for BCNA while also ensuring conversations around Breast Cancer awareness were at the forefront. The day also highlights and recognises the powerful impact women have on sporting clubs, with events such as this a high priority for Canterbury.
Shannon Noble, Canterbury secretary said “Running the ladies day was a huge achievement for our club and also a huge achievement for all of our members involved in putting the day together. Getting to listen to so many inspiring and powerful women, and knowing what we can achieve and accomplish when we work together makes me incredibly proud to be a part of this footy club and makes me incredibly proud to be a woman. To be able to do it all in the name of a really great cause for BCNA made the day all the more special.”
