This week the VAFA is celebrating National Volunteer Week (20-26 May). We would like to acknowledge the remarkable individuals who are the lifeblood of our football clubs. These unsung heroes embody the true spirit of community, dedicating their time, skills, and passion towards their respective clubs. As we reflect on their invaluable contributions, let us recognise the profound impact they have on shaping the landscape of the football community.
To date, the VAFA has close to 1000 volunteers who selflessly give their time to nurture talent by managing training days, organising events like charity programs, pride rounds, TYF & BCNA themed rounds and also maintain club facilities, and the list goes on. From coaching aspiring athletes to managing administrative tasks, their roles are as diverse as they are essential.
Behind every club, lies a team of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure its success. From match days to fundraisers, their meticulous planning and execution creates memorable experiences for participants and spectators alike, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
The VAFA extends its congratulations to two VAFA clubs who were chosen as select winners in AFL Victoria’s $10k Incentive Program which was an initiative to recognise volunteers in community football. Whitefriars Football Club and Monash Blues Football Club have each been awarded 5 vouchers worth $200 as part of this initiative.
At this year’s William Buck VAFA Season Launch, the VAFA presented Certificate of Merits to Peter Bye (Therry Penola), Lawrence Tutton (Old Ivanhoe), Bernard Angel (University Blues) and Duncan Palmer (Old Carey) for their outstanding contributions to their respective clubs over a span of at least 15 years.
This National Volunteer Week, the VAFA is asking clubs to recognise club volunteers and their contributions by nominating them for The Pass Volunteer of the Month awards. Their strong commitment and dedication play a huge role in shaping the future of the club.
