VAFA Clubs empowering Women & Girls

By VAFA · September 4, 2024
VAFA Clubs empowering Women & Girls

Last week 17 VAFA clubs gathered to show their commitment to enabling and empowering Women at all levels within VAFA clubs. These 17 clubs participated in AFL facilitated workshops to support clubs becoming signatories to the AFL Women & Girls Community Football Charter.

Led by AFL Victoria’s, Beth Cook, the workshop’s provided clubs with tailored support to develop action plan’s that highlight their club’s commitment to Women and their involvement on and off the field at their club.

The AFL Victoria Women & Girls Community Football Charter is a pledge by community Football Clubs to create welcoming, safe, and inclusive environments for women and girls.

Once recognised as Women & Girls Community Football charter signatories clubs will receive direct communication about Women’s & Girls grants, favourable consideration for Women’s & Girls funding initiatives, recognition on the AFL Victoria website, as well as access to Women’s & Girls posters, badges, and a suite of social media assets.

“I really enjoyed the Women’s & Girls Charter workshop; it was great to hear from the other participants and discuss the opportunities to strengthen our club in the Women’s & Girls space. I found the workshop to be insightful and thought provoking, it made me look at our club with a fresh set of eyes. Beth was an excellent facilitator, and her knowledge and guidance was pivotal in shaping our action plan to ensure that the MUWFC fosters a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for all.” –  Fiona Hudson (Treasurer- Melbourne University Women’s Football Club)

The VAFA would like to thank all the clubs who participated in the workshops and would welcome any other clubs who would like to be involved in this program to reach out to VAFA Club Support Coordinator, Pranav Menon ([email protected]).
