Public Holiday Friday big stage set for William Buck Premier Men’s Grand Final

By VAFA Media · September 22, 2024
Public Holiday Friday big stage set for William Buck Premier Men’s Grand Final

The two teams are locked in for the 2024 VAFA William Buck Premier Men’s Grand Final, with Old Brighton and Old Scotch to do battle at Elsternwick Park on the AFL Grand Final Eve Public Holiday this Friday.

It’s a break with tradition for the VAFA, with this the first time the Premier Men’s showpiece has been played on the Public Holiday, away from its usual Sunday timeslot, and it promises to be a huge day at VAFA HQ.

Being the only game of community footy in Melbourne on the AFL Grand Final Eve Public Holiday, a big crowd is expected to descend on Elsternwick Park for the final game of the year.

Minor Premiers Old Brighton will be vying for their first Premiership in the top flight in club history, while for Old Scotch who defeated St Kevin’s in Saturday’s Preliminary Final, it’s a return to the Grand Final stage 26 years in the making and 46 years since they last won it. Old Xaverians take on Old Scotch in the Reserves Grand Final.

There will be various activations at Elsternwick Park to enhance the fan experience, while those in attendance can listen to the match live in real-time on SEN Stadium via the SEN App.

VAFA CEO Jason Reddick said, “The public holiday Friday in September was introduced for the people of Melbourne to get into the finals football spirit, with the AFL Grand Final being played the next day.

“However, from a community football perspective, there is no other football game being played in metropolitan Melbourne on that day.

“So, with the support of our Premier Men’s Clubs, we are taking the opportunity to showcase our VAFA William Buck Premier Men’s Grand Final on this public holiday and further grow the exposure of our competition to all football followers across Melbourne.

“We welcome all football supporters to join us at Elsternwick Park for what promises to be a great day of high quality community football entertainment.”

Enjoy the ultimate VAFA Grand Final day experience at the Official Match Day Function. Includes lunch and drinks between 12 & 2pm upstairs in the Elsternwick Park Social Room, all for $85 per head (includes ground entry). Spots are limited and bookings are essential.

Pre-Purchase Tickets

The Grand Final will also be streamed on the VAFA website and KommunityTV on the Herald Sun website.
