VAFA launches Women’s Academy Series
The VAFA is thrilled to announce that, for the first time in League history, a Women’s Academy Series will be played to provide talented youngsters with the opportunity to feature
On March 17th, the VAFA hosted a Coach Induction workshop at Elsternwick Park, in partnership with AFL Victoria. This session provided a valuable opportunity for both new and experienced coaches to develop their skills and knowledge, ensuring they’re well-prepared for the upcoming season.
The workshop covered a variety of essential coaching topics, including coaching philosophies, communications, branding and the core values of coaching. Sam Colegero, Coach Developer at AFL Victoria, delivered the session, sharing his expertise with attendees.
The session saw 11 coaches from 8 different clubs (Albert Park, West Brunswick, Old Yarra Cobras, Therry Penola, St Kevin’s OB, St Johns, MHSOB, and Elsternwick) engage in insightful discussions and practical learning. It was a great opportunity for both seasoned coaches and those just starting their coaching journey to connect, share experiences, and build on their coaching practices.
The VAFA is committed to prioritising Coach Development throughout 2025, with plans to continue offering professional development opportunities. One such opportunity is the Coach Developer Program, which pairs coaches with a mentor for personalised guidance, observation and feedback at training sessions. This program is designed to help both new coaches improve foundational skills and experienced coaches further their development with higher-level techniques.
If you or a coach at your club are interested in the Coach Developer Program, please contact Pranav Menon ([email protected]) to submit an expression of interest. The VAFA looks forward to supporting coaches as they grow and evolve throughout the 2025 season and beyond.
