Round 4 Anytime Fitness Men’s Rising Star: Jackson Smith

Round 4 Anytime Fitness Men’s Rising Star: Jackson Smith

The VAFA congratulates Jackson Smith from Canterbury Football Club who has been nominated as the Round 4 Anytime Fitness Men’s Rising Star.

What the club said:

Jackson Smith (“Jacko”) joined Canterbury ahead of the 2024/25 pre-season alongside nine close mates. When the decision was made not to field an Under 19s team, Jacko and the group chose to stay on — a decision that has had a transformative impact on Canterbury’s list profile.

Having last played competitive football six years ago with Glen Iris U14s, Jacko has made a remarkable return to the game. Since making his senior debut, he’s kicked goal hauls of 3, 2, 3, and a standout 8-goal performance in Round 4 against Hawthorn. He currently sits as the outright leading goalkicker in Division 2. Jacko has been a fantastic addition to the club, both on and off the field, and we’re excited to see his continued development across the season and into the future.

Canterbury Coach, Steve Brown said:

“Jacko and his mates who came down in November last year have worked really hard to get to where they are now. He has really bought into the club including running the water on the twos last week to support his mates.

On field his ability to keep his feet and bring others into the game is outstanding. From a guy who has played 3 games of competitive footy in 5 years we can’t wait to see where his ceiling is both this year and on the future. We are so glad him and his mates chose Canterbury.”
