Excitement is building as former AFL goalkicking superstar Brendan Fevola prepares to make his VAFA debut with the Masala Dandenong Thirds this Saturday, May 10.
The 44-year-old spearhead, who booted 623 AFL goals in 204 matches with Carlton and Brisbane, volunteered to lace up the boots and support a local footy club via a promotion on FOX FM’s ‘Fifi, Fev & Nick’ breakfast show.
Masala, who suffered a 229-point loss to St Bede’s Mentone Tigers last weekend and currently sits last in Thirds Division 5, beat out a host of other local clubs to be selected by FOX FM as the community team most in need of some on-field support.
As a result, Fev and pop superstar Guy Sebastian will pull on the club’s distinctive yellow and black guernsey for a one-off appearance this weekend.
Fevola has a personal affinity for the area, having begun his football journey playing with Beaconsfield in the Dandenong & District Junior Football League. Always a fan favourite, he will no doubt spot a few familiar faces cheering him on from over the fence (and maybe a few providing some constructive criticism as well!)
“I’m pumped to be playing for Masala Dandenong on the weekend!” said Fevola.
“The VAFA is one of Australia’s great competitions and hopefully we can get the boys a win this Saturday!”
And if that wasn’t enough to get the fans through the gates, Guy will also perform the half-time entertainment!
The match – against South Melbourne Districts – will be at Lois Twohig Reserve (80 Carlton Rd, Dandenong North) with the opening bounce at 9am.
Entry is free, so get along and witness one of the modern game’s most talented goalkickers and larger-than-life characters strut his stuff on a VAFA field for the first time!
