The VAFA is proud to continue its partnership with Next Gen Unite (NGU) in 2025, supporting a community-driven initiative with a strong vision to strengthen connections and address key issues within the South Sudanese community.
The third annual NGU Cup featured three matches on 18th October at Whitten Oval (Under 18s, Women’s, and Men’s) showcasing the football talent of the Westside Warriors and Eastside Eagles, representing different regions of Melbourne’s South Sudanese community.
Next Gen Unite is a dynamic, youth-led non-profit organisation passionately committed to empowering South Sudanese Australians. Through initiatives focused on education, mentorship, sport, and cultural engagement, NGU continues to create transformative opportunities for young people.
It was a fantastic day of football and community spirit, with people of all ages coming together to cheer on the players and enjoy the atmosphere. The presence of several AFL recruiters added to the excitement, as they watched all games closely throughout the day.
As part of the partnership, the VAFA proudly provided umpires and footballs for the day, with VAFA Umpires (Eric Liang, Victor Wong, Julian Maccioni, Pat Sexton and Chris Lindsay) actively supporting and officiating the matches.
