Our VAFA Team of the Year series continues with Premier B Women’s, as compiled by our reporter, Lauren Atkinson, based on feedback and analysis from coaches, umpires and VAFA Media across the home & away season.
Old Brighton were the dominant force in season 2025, claiming the minor premiership by 3 games (14-1) from Old Melburnians, and it was the top 2 ultimately progressing to meet on Grand Final Day.
Port Melbourne Chargers qualified for finals in their inaugural VAFA season – a fantastic performance, and one which augurs well for the future, while another relative newcomer – Westbourne – rounded out the Top 4.
Westbourne eliminated the Chargers in a thrilling 4-point First Semi, while OMs upset the minor premiers in the Second Semi – their 1-point win seeing them straight through to the Big One, while the Tonners had to go via the Preliminary Final.
A superb defensive performance saw them stifle Westbourne to win by 29 points, then a similarly stingy performance against OMs on Grand Final Day saw them lift the cup by 23 points.
There was plenty of quality throughout the Premier B Women’s competition this season, as reflected in the line-up below.
Here is the Premier B Women’s Team of the Year for 2025:

Premiers Old Brighton have five selections, including Coach of the Year, Andrew Grant, and the Captain of this team – Indi Tait, who will lead a strong midfield brigade that also includes Sienna Courtney (equal fourth in League B&F) on a wing. Fellow Tonner Sophie Grant starts at half back, while Jas Tait will provide fresh legs off the bench – what a luxury that would have opposition coaches shaking their heads in jealousy!
Runners-up Old Melburnians also have five representatives – Stephanie Barnett in a key defensive post, Lily Wallace and Ellen Williams lining up in the centre square, Rising Star nominee Olive McLean up forward, and Georgia Dunlop providing midfield depth.
Westbourne have three reps in this line-up, with Hannah Scothern down back, Gracie Lamers (third in League B&F) starting on a wing, and Temeika Cathery providing a focal point up forward after booting 21 goals.
Marcellin also provide a trio to this stellar line-up, with Alana Pane (who polled coaches’ votes in 10 of her 13 games and finished second in the League B&F), along with Tania Carpinteri as a key defensive pillar, and gun goalkicker Zoe Glascott (29 goals) up forward.
Two reps from Port Melbourne Chargers’ inaugural line-up, with the league’s leading goalkicker, Georgia Harris (46 goals) lining up deep forward, while Maia Sublet also got the nod from the selectors.
League Best & Fairest winner Maddi Wilson is one of two St Bede’s/Mentone Tigers representatives, alongside Isabella Gietzmann at half-forward, while Old Yarra Cobras also provide a handy pair, with Erin Woodford at half-back and Alannah Murray at half-forward.
Melbourne University provided one player, with Nell Washington included as part of this impressive defence that will be difficult to get past.
Congratulations to everyone who made the team after such a competitive season!
