The VAFA is pleased to announce the extension of its Umpire Partnership with the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) for the 2026 season.
The partnership, which has played a key role in strengthening umpiring across the south east of Melbourne, will continue to focus on fostering clear pathways between both leagues, supporting the development of talented umpires, and boosting recruitment and overall participation in umpiring.
Throughout 2026, the VAFA and SMJFL will work collaboratively to share resources and provide meaningful opportunities for umpires at all stages of their development.
Joint umpire training sessions will again be held every Monday, enabling umpires from both leagues to learn together, build confidence, and progress through regular coaching.
This renewed commitment reflects the strong relationship between the leagues, and a shared vision for developing a sustainable and thriving umpire community in the region.
The VAFA looks forward to another successful year partnering with the SMJFL to support, develop, and elevate umpiring across both competitions.
