The VAFA community came together on Wednesday night to bring in the 2026 Season with the William Buck VAFA Season Launch at River’s Edge Events.
Perched on the banks of the Yarra, club representatives, VAFA Life Members, players, staff, commercial and broadcast partners, and the VAFA Board gathered to celebrate what is set to be another benchmark season for the VAFA.
With Round 1 kicking off on Saturday, the night served as the perfect chance to acknowledge the countless hours of work put in during the preseason across all areas of the competition to get players ready for their first game of the year.

Guests were treated to Q&A conducted with St Bedes/Mentone alumni and Western Bulldogs AFL coach, Luke Beveridge, while Certificate of Merit winners were also named including: Sharon Torney (Fitzroy), Tim Purdey (Brunswick) and Sean Flaherty (PEGS). The VAFA is proud to call all of these community members one of our own, and thank them for their outstanding contributions over the years.
Finally, St Kevin’s were announced as the winners of the 2025 VAFA Club Championship Shield for the fourth time in a row with a record breaking 217 points. The presentation of the Shield represents the final official act of season 2025. The new season is now officially open and we wish all clubs the best of luck for the road ahead!
