The VAFA held its 2026 Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) Round on the weekend, fittingly coinciding with Mother’s Day on 10 May.
It was an important moment for our community to come together and celebrate the women who are the heartbeat of our clubs, while backing a cause that touches so many Australians.
With a number of fixtures and club events scheduled for the following weekend (15–17 May), the momentum will continue as more VAFA clubs show their support and help amplify awareness of breast cancer.
Mother’s Day holds special meaning across the VAFA. It’s a time to pause and acknowledge the mums, grandmothers, partners, daughters, teammates and friends who contribute as players, coaches, volunteers, officials, supporters and family members. This year, clubs proudly paired that celebration with the BCNA message helping to raise funds and recognising the individuals and families navigating breast cancer.
Across the competition, support was shown in fun, heartfelt and practical ways. Pink Lady Lunches, raffles, auctions and tin rattling helped drive fundraising, while pink footballs and a sea of pink boots, socks and jumpers created a visible show of solidarity on game day. The energy, creativity and generosity on display were a timely reminder of what the VAFA community can achieve when we rally behind a shared purpose.
Several clubs went above and beyond in 2026, including Caulfield Grammarians FC, Hampton Rovers AFC, West Brunswick AFC and South Melbourne District FC, while Wattle Park also held their annual function supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
We extend our appreciation to the clubs running BCNA initiatives on 15–17 May, your continued support helps keep the conversation going and strengthens the impact of the round.
Funds raised through the round assist BCNA and other organisations to continue its vital work providing information, resources and connection for people affected by breast cancer. Together, we honour the women in our community, stand with those impacted, and help make a meaningful difference.
