Round 4 saw two matches decided by under five points, with wins to Aquinas and North Brunswick, while Old Xaverians continued their unbeaten start to the 2026 campaign.

Old Xaverians secured their third win of the 2026 season with a 26-point victory over Ormond at E.E. Gunn Reserve.
The visitors set the tone early with two opening-quarter goals, although Ormond responded late in the term to trail by just seven points at quarter-time.
Old Xaverians added two more goals in the second quarter while keeping Ormond scoreless, taking a 19-point lead into half-time.
The third quarter followed a similar pattern before Old Xaverians broke the game open with three final-quarter goals to seal an emphatic win.
Coach Gabby Golds praised her side’s growing cohesion.
“Ormond came out strong with a quick goal. Once we switched on, we found our groove and played to our strengths. We found space in a very crowded game and worked really hard in defence.
“Audrey James was solid in our backline, along with Annabelle White, Chloe Bonnett, Charli Wapshott, Daisy Bonnett and Ash Rowan.”

Melbourne University secured their third win of the season in thrilling fashion, defeating Aquinas by three points at J.W. Manson Reserve.
Aquinas started strongly, kicking two first-quarter goals through Ash Broderick to take a 15-point lead at quarter-time.
The home side added another major late in the second term before Asha Price kicked Melbourne University’s first goal of the game, reducing the margin to nine points at half-time.
After a tight and contested third quarter, the final term provided plenty of entertainment. Asha Price, Bridget Hudson and Gabrielle McDonald all kicked goals in quick succession for Melbourne University before Holly Kenna responded for Aquinas. However, the visitors held firm to secure the win.
Melbourne University coach Jules Hunter was pleased with her side’s resilience and defensive effort.
“The resilience the players showed to maintain composure, respond to the opposition’s early goals, fight back and then hold on at the end was outstanding. Players showed real grit, passion and determination to play for one another.
“Bridget Hudson and Mickey Gostencnik have been so consistent for us through the midfield. Daisy Sudholz again thrived, while Gabby McDonald really stood up across the backline and supported Ella Ashley through the ruck.”
Despite the loss, Aquinas coach was pleased with his side’s effort.
“It was a great contest that ebbed and flowed throughout. When Melbourne Uni took control in the second half, we worked hard to wrestle back momentum, but Melbourne Uni were too good in the end.
“Chelsea Delbridge was her typical classy, consistent self in her 100th game.”

North Brunswick 6.3 (39) def Canterbury 5.5 (35)
North Brunswick secured their second win of the season, defeating Canterbury by four points at Jackson Reserve in a thrilling contest.
Canterbury started strongly with two first-quarter goals before Ange Hall kicked a late major for the Bulls, leaving the visitors with a seven-point lead at quarter-time.
Canterbury controlled much of the second term through goals to Georgia Bold and Kate Ward, before Hannah Tucker kept North Brunswick in the contest with a late goal to reduce the margin to 13 points at half-time.
North Brunswick fought back in the third quarter with goals to Chloe Hoskinson and Ange Hall, cutting Canterbury’s lead to just one point at the final break.
The final quarter delivered plenty of excitement, with North Brunswick kicking two goals to Canterbury’s one to secure a hard-fought victory.
Coach Jake Barclay commended his side for sticking to the game plan.
“Everyone stepped up a notch when the game was in the balance, and we took control in the last five minutes to seal the deal.
“Ange Hall and Orla Minogue both played exceptionally well in their first games for us. Ange scored the winning goal. Sarah Shaw, Tilli Franks, Denver Adams and Maegan Dick were all massive in the midfield and battled hard all day.
“Lauren Balcombe was influential as a general in the backline.”
