It was a massive win for the Hawks as they kept the Cobras to two-goals for the day, strengthening their bid for the top 2 on the ladder.
Cobras coach Bree Pascoe looked at her team’s game constructively after a tough start to the season for Old Yarra. “There were plenty of positives to take out of the game despite the result on the scoreboard. The team continued to compete strongly throughout the match.”
Pascoe was pleased with the work of her forwards April Jones and Jen Plumb, who kicks the Cobras majors for the day.
She also lauded her team’s continued improvement. “They show improvement each week, and there are many encouraging signs to build on”.
The next round sees the Cobras at home taking on the third placed Prahan/Collegians as Hawthorn take on Caulfield.

It was a tight contest between the second placed Hearts and third placed Prahan/Collegians. With Prahan/Collegians getting the jump in the first, holding a one goal lead at quarter time – the biggest lead of the day. The Hearts clawed back the lead, finishing three-point victors in a nailbiter.
Prahan president Mark Perree was pleased with the team’s performance in the close game.
“The game began as a genuine arm wrestle, with both teams finding it difficult to gain territory and create scoring opportunities. It was a low-scoring first quarter, with pressure around the contest making ball movement challenging.
“However, when the game opened up, the Prahran/Collegians women showed some excellent passages of play, including clean handball receives, strong front-and-centre work and chains of handballs that helped drive the ball forward and create scoring opportunities.”
He also looked forward to the rest of the season positively.
“As always, we will focus on the things we can control, continue to improve and prepare for another challenge in Round 8.
“We have a great foundation, a fantastic group of players and the support of two strong clubs behind our women’s program. There is plenty to look forward to as the season progresses.”
Next round sees Prahan/Collegians play the struggling Old Yarra as Old Haileybury faces ladder leaders Parkdale.
Parkdale 5.4 34 def Caulfield 2.3 15
Ladder leaders Parkdale continued their strong start to the season stringing together their seventh win in a row. They sit a game clear at the top of the ladder. The Vultures kept Caulfield goalless for the first three quarters before a late run form Caulfield saw them claw back the margin to 19 points.
Vultures coach Jess Welford described her team’s performance constructively. “We started strongly in the first half, moving the ball well, opening the game up and kicking five goals while keeping Caulfield goalless.
“In the second half, Caulfield lifted their intensity, keeping us goalless and kicking two goals. Despite having plenty of possession, we couldn’t convert inside 50. A good overall effort with plenty to work on.”
Next round sees the Vultures looking to string together eight in a row against the second placed Old Haileybury while Caulfield face Hawthorn hot off their big win over Old Yarra.
