The VAFA congratulates Millie Lang from Kew Football Club, who has been nominated as the Round 7 VAFA Women’s Rising Star.
Millie played one of the great VAFA debuts, collecting 38 disposals, 20 intercept possessions, 17 marks and 228 ranking points in Kew’s victory over Old Brighton in William Buck Premier Women’s!
What the club said:
At just 19 years of age, Millie Lang’s football journey has already taken her through some of the game’s highest developmental pathways. Millie joined the Collingwood VFLW program in 2025 while also choosing Kew Football Club as her community club. Since arriving at Kew, she has become one of the competition’s most exciting young players, combining athleticism, composure and football intelligence with a team-first attitude.
Her recent VAFA Rising Star nomination is recognition not only of her performances this season, but also of the hard work and dedication that have seen her progress from junior football in Ballarat to representative football, the Talent League, VFLW and now Premier Women’s football.
While her football achievements are impressive, it was what occurred after Kew’s victory over Old Brighton that perhaps best demonstrated the person Millie is. At the conclusion of the game, Millie addressed the playing group and spoke passionately about the culture of the club. She reflected on the many positive things she had heard about Kew before arriving and how those expectations had been exceeded through the genuine care, connection and support she had experienced since joining.
Her heartfelt words resonated deeply with players, coaches and staff alike. In a moment filled with gratitude and pride, Millie reminded everyone why they commit so much to the club each week and how special the bonds within the group have become. There were more than a few tears in the room as she spoke, and her message helped make the end of a memorable day even more significant.
For someone so young, Millie displayed a level of maturity, perspective and emotional intelligence well beyond her years. It was a powerful reminder that while she is an exceptional footballer, her greatest impact may be the influence she has on the people around her.
Coach quote:
“Millie’s journey is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and a genuine love of the game. She’s already experienced football at a very high level, but what impresses us most is her humility, willingness to learn and the way she contributes to those around her. This Rising Star nomination is thoroughly deserved and we’re excited to see what the future holds for her.”
