BIG V SQUADS TO TAKE ON GOULBURN VALLEY ANNOUNCED
Both initial squads for the VAFA’s Big V clashes against the Goulburn Valley League have been named, setting the stage for a huge day of footy at Revo Fitness Park (Elsternwick Park) on Saturday, July 11.
47 players have been selected in the initial Big V Premier B-Division 3 Men’s Senior Squad, with Jarrod Gieschen set to take the reigns from Luke Mahoney, who led the team to back-to-back wins. Read the full squad here.
In the Under 19’s, 48 of the VAFA’s best young footballers have been selected for the initial squad, led by Paul Gilmour, a former Big V representative himself. Read the full squad here.
MORE VAFA STALWARTS RECEIVE AUTRALIAN HONOURS
The VAFA is excited to share two more personal honours for community members Andrew Mullet (Old Brighton) and Leo Carney (Brunswick).
Andrew Mullett from Old Brighton (pictured below) received an OAM for Servies to Australian Rules Football, for his extensive dedication to the club who he has been with for more than 50 years. During that time, he has been a player, coach, team manager, committee member, VAFA delegate, property steward, timekeeper, archivist, club scribe, historian, statistician, and general custodian of all things Grammarians. Today, Andrew is known as ‘The Benchwarmer’, providing satirical accounts of the club’s weekly games.

Brunswick’s Leo Carney was awarded an AO for distinguished service to optometric and vision
sciences through research and clinical practice, to academia, and to tertiary education. Leo joined the club in 1965, playing in the 1965 D Grade Premiership, and went on to win multiple Firsts B&Fs, and played over 100 games.
BEAUMARIS STAND WITH AJAX
Beaumaris Football Club recently stood with AJAX Football Club and the wider Jewish community against antisemitism ahead of their clash on the weekend. President Scott Nish delivered a powerful statement, reminding all in attendance the important of respect, acceptance and inclusion across our VAFA community.
VAFA MILESTONES IN WEEK 9
This week, Kew will celebrate two player milestones in Eloise Burdett-Moore with 50 games, while Tom Harbrow will hit 100. Harbrow joined Kew in 2019 and was a key member of the 2019 Reserves Premiership side, and is a current senior assistant coach.
Beaumaris Women’s player Zali Reynolds notches 50 games this week against the port Melbourne Chargers.
AJAX player Aaron Bryer also celebrates 100 games. Aaron is a dual premiership-winning player in the junior club along with a B&F third place at the senior club, and has become a mainstay of the AJAX backline, bringing his fierce determination every week.
After a hiatus away from the game, Jack Holland from St Bernards will reach his 150th VAFA game this weekend. Starting at the club as a junior before progressing through U19’s, Ressies and Thirds, Jack is back to notch his 150th against Xavs.
