Recognition awards in 2026 are back! The VAFA is proud to celebrate the outstanding contributions of coaches who go above and beyond to support their clubs and embody the values of our community. Each month, we receive nominations that highlight inspiring stories of dedication, leadership, and impact and May was no exception.
The Carruthers Executive Community Coach of the Month for May is Adam Lagerewskij from Masala FC.
Adam has been involved with the club for more than seven years, including the past four years in a coaching role. Since stepping into the head coach position, Adam has had a significant impact on the club, helping drive positive change both on and off the field.
The club’s nomination for Adam is included below:
“After a challenging few seasons, our club has experienced a complete turnaround under the leadership of our Senior Coach (Adam) this year. Not only have we started the season with four consecutive wins, but the culture, structure, and belief within the playing group has grown enormously. Training numbers have significantly improved, with players genuinely wanting to attend, improve, and be part of the environment being created. The standards and professionalism around the club have lifted, and the players have responded positively to the clear direction and support provided by the coaching group. What has stood out most has been the respect shown by opposition clubs. In the past weeks alone, opposing coaches have approached him after games to comment on how well structured and organised our team is. One opposition coach even asked him for coaching tips following the match — a reflection of the preparation, game plan, and leadership he brings each week. Most importantly, he has helped create a positive and united environment where players are enjoying their football again while also achieving results on the field. His passion, commitment, and dedication to both the players and the club make him a very deserving nominee for VAFA Coach of the Month.”
We commend Adam’s continued contribution to his club and the wider VAFA community.
