The VAFA, Australia’s oldest and largest senior football competition, has an appealing position available as a Club Development Lead and is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to fill this stimulating and varied role.
The successful candidate will have highly developed communications skills, proficient knowledge to assist in the Delivery of the VAFA Strategic Plan and the key actions relating to the pillar of Community & Club Support.
This is a full-time position.
Reporting direct to the Executive General Manager Football & Projects, the role will be working closely with VAFA staff, VAFA Clubs and our external stakeholders.
Role Summary
- Support VAFA clubs with traditional Club development activities.
- Support the registration of club volunteers on Play HQ
- Lead the VAFA Recognition & Reward process for Volunteers, Coaches and Clubs and link VAFA recipients to key AFL Awards.
- Lead Coach education and Professional Development opportunities and manage the relationship with key AFL Victoria Coaching staff members.
- Create content for VAFA communication channels that highlight stories, Club development initiatives and opportunities through the VAFA portal, website and social media platforms.
- Deliver and facilitate the Tackle your Feelings program and manage the key activities and initiatives within the program while managing the relationship with appropriate TYF stakeholders. Deliver all services outlined in the Service Agreement.
- Produce and provide annual delivery plans and data to TYF stakeholders pre-season and on request.
- Support VAFA Clubs in applications for available funds and grants including but not limited to Telstra Country Footy Grants, TAC rewards program and Sport & Recreation Victoria Grants.
- Support VAFA Clubs with appropriate fundraising opportunities such as the Good for Footy Raffle
- Lead the delivery of VAFA Themed rounds each season (TAC, TYF & BCNA)
- Support the management of key external relationships with Community partners.
- Support the delivery of appropriate Mental Health and Welfare initiatives to clubs and other VAFA Stakeholders.
- Lead the delivery of base level compliance requirements around AFL initiatives including Child Safety, Coach Accreditation etc.
- Attend and contribute to relevant AFL Victoria Club Development meetings.
- Other duties as outlined in the full Position description, Management Action Plan and the Executive General Manager Football & Projects.
Skills and experience required
- Tertiary qualification in Sports Management, Sports Administration, or relevant field.
- Strong communication skills including presentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and presentation skills.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience in working with volunteers.
- Strong administrative skills including time management and the ability to effectively prioritise tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including a strong focus on supporting VAFA members.
- Ability to work to season timelines and collaborate with VAFA Stakeholders.
- Highly flexible and able to work in a variety of locations, settings and preparedness to work outside of traditional business hours including weekends during the football season.
- A strong understanding of the Community Football landscape.
