The VAFA congratulates Poppy Lawrance from Old Xaverians, who has been nominated as the Round 12 VAFA Women’s Rising Star.
Poppy has featured among the best players in 7 of 11 matches this season in her first year in the VAFA, playing in the Premier B Women’s competition.
What the club said:
Poppy is enjoying her first season with WOX after joining the club from Genazzano FCJ College in Kew, where she developed her football skills and game knowledge through the Genazzano Football Program.
She also gained valuable experience with the Oakleigh Chargers before a knee injury temporarily interrupted her development.
Away from the field, Poppy is studying Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University and works at Genazzano as an athletics and football coach. She is also involved in the College’s Athletic Development Program.
Football runs in the family, with her brother Oscar currently playing for the Old Xavs Reserves.
Coaches quote:
Poppy is a dynamic midfielder who can also make an impact when rotating forward. Her ability to read the play allows her to consistently find space and put herself in dangerous positions around the ground. With her speed and attacking mindset, Poppy is always prepared to take the game on. She also brings strong defensive pressure, using her determination and tackling ability to hunt the opposition and win the football back. Poppy is a valuable member of the Old Xaverians Football Club.
