John Boorn passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday 3 August 2026 aged 91. He was a much valued and popular supporter of the Ormond Amateur Football Club. He lived close to EE Gunn Reserve and became a regular spectator at matches and club lunches right up to the time of his passing.
Before becoming an Ormond supporter, John enjoyed a distinguished career as a player and administrator with the National Bank Football Club in the VAFA (club ceased in 1979). John undertook a multitude of roles at the National Bank FC after his playing days, including club trainer and committee member, and was awarded Club Life Membership in 1963.
John’s love of amateur football led him to become a long-serving VAFA Tribunal panel member; he commenced on the VAFA Tribunal in 1979 and ceased in 2019. He also gave significant service to the VAFA’s Big V representative football program as a trainer, property steward and Carnival Tribunal member. He was awarded a VAFA Certificate of Merit in 2019 in recognition of his service to amateur football.
John was an active participant in local, community affairs throughout the Glen Eira municipality and regularly involved himself in Council matters. His local involvement included as a community representative on the EE Gunn Reserve Advisory Committee for over 20 years until the committee was ceased by Council in 2021, and he was a member of the Elsternwick Bowling Club for many years.
John was married to Enid (dec), and had two daughters, Jane and Lucy, and five grandchildren, including Charlie who played for Ormond Juniors 2017-19. Our sincere condolences to John’s family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held on Friday 14 August 2026 in the Renowden Chapel at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, 600 Princes Highway, Springvale, commencing at 10.30am.
