The VAFA congratulates Duncan McKie from Fitzroy, who has been nominated as the Round 15 VAFA Men’s Rising Star.
Duncan has played in all 15 senior games this year, averaging 25.6 disposals and 108.6 ranking points a game.
What the club said:
Duncan is a Fitzroy junior through and through, having played all of his junior football at Fitzroy Junior Football Club. He began with the Roys as an Under 9 in 2016 and progressed through the club before finishing his junior journey with the Youth Boys in 2024.
In 2025, Duncan represented the Northern Knights in the Coates Talent League while also playing school football for Carey Grammar. He made the transition to Fitzroy’s senior program in 2026 and has made an immediate impact, playing in all 15 senior games so far this season.
Coach quote
“Duncs is an elite human who comes from a brilliant family and has great values. He has an enormous drive to improve and get the absolute best out of himself, but what makes him special is that he combines that with a genuine hunger for team success and wanting the best for his teammates and the footy club.
He loves learning, takes everything on board and is just so much fun to coach. We’ve played him across half back this year where he’s become a really important part of our side. His balance between defending and then impacting offensively has been outstanding. He’s averaging 25 disposals a game, but more importantly he consistently performs strongly in the key metrics and behaviours that we value as a team.
That combination of his character, his drive and his football ability is going to give Duncs every opportunity to take his footy wherever he wants it to go.”
