The VAFA congratulates Alicia Basham from Mazenod OC, who has been nominated as the Round 16 VAFA Women’s Rising Star.
Alicia has enjoyed a consistent season in a team headed for finals in Division 4 Women’s.
What the club said:
Alicia Basham has a strong sporting background, with football becoming a major part of her journey during her later high school years. Her athleticism, competitiveness and versatility have helped her develop into a well-rounded player. After two seasons with the Waverley Park Hawks in the SMJFL, Alicia finished her junior career by winning the club’s U/18 Best & Fairest. She continued her football journey with Mazenod OCFC in 2025, but her first season of senior football was cut short by a significant ankle injury, limiting her to just a handful of games. Undeterred, Alicia attacked the 2026 preseason with determination and commitment. Her hard work has since seen her develop into one of the club’s key playmakers, taking on important roles across half back and in the ruck. She has demonstrated her ability to compete strongly, defend with purpose and contribute on the scoreboard. Alicia’s progression is a reflection of her dedication, resilience and determination, and highlights the continued growth of her football journey.
