Hearts flip the script as the Vultures progress – Division 3 Women’s Finals Week 1 Review

Hearts flip the script as the Vultures progress – Division 3 Women’s Finals Week 1 Review

Parkdale 2.7 (18) def Hawthorn 2.0 (12)

The Vultures have won their way through to the Division 3 Women’s Grand Final with a 7-point victory over the Hawks.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Vultures kicked two goals to the Hawks one in the second. The third quarter saw the Vultures kick a solitary point for the quarter.

A 13-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter made it tough for Hawthorn to beat the minor premiers and Parkdale went on to win their way into the big dance.

Parkdale coach Jess Welford expressed her pride in her team’s effort.

“It was strong team effort with great pressure and intensity throughout the game. We created plenty of opportunities but had difficulty putting goals on the board.”

“It was another special match for us, celebrating Maya Dunne’s 100th game, with full commitment from all players. Lots of positives to take away, with plenty to keep working on.”

Old Haileybury 5.7 (37) def Prahran/Collegians 2.1 (13)

Old Haileybury have kept their season alive, downing Prahran/Collegians only a week after being beaten by them.

A goalless first quarter meant the game was there for the taking for either side. But at half-time the game still hung in the balance after both sides found the goals leaving a two-point difference at the half with the Hearts holding the lead.

The third quarter saw Old Haileybury kick two goals to Prahran/Collegians’ one taking the lead to 10 points at three-quarter-time. The Hearts then took complete control keeping the Two Blue Lions scoreless in the last whilst kicking two goals.

The Hearts shared the goalkicking honours with vice-captain Gypsy Fowell kicking three and Reanna Barbakas kicking two.

This week sees Hawthorn and Old Haileybury face off in the Preliminary Final to decide who will face Parkdale in the Grand Final.

Throughout the season Old Haileybury and Hawthorn have faced off three times with the Hearts winning twice including the most recent encounter and the Hawks gaining one win.
