Club Connect Club of the Month – July

The VAFA is delighted to announce the Club Connect Club of the Month winner for July is University Blacks Football Club, recognised for their outstanding commitment to community engagement, inclusion, participation growth and the promotion of important social initiatives across the VAFA community.  

Throughout the season, University Blacks has continued to demonstrate what it means to be a community-focused football club, embracing initiatives that strengthen connections both within the club and beyond. 

A standout initiative was the club’s annual ‘Uni Pinks’ Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser, which brought members, supporters and the broader community together to raise awareness and support an important cause. The club was also highly active throughout the VAFA’s TAC Road Safety Round, enthusiastically promoting key campaign messages and collateral while helping raise awareness of safe behaviours within the football community.  

In addition, University Blacks proudly celebrated a First Nations Round fixture against St Kevin’s, led by Wurundjeri man Colin Hunter Jnr, creating an opportunity to recognise First Nations culture and strengthen understanding, respect and connection across the club community. 
 
University Blacks has also consistently used their digital platforms to celebrate and recognise the people who make the club special. From acknowledging player milestones and achievements to highlighting volunteers and club successes, the club has maintained a strong and positive social media presence that promotes engagement and strengthens club culture. 

Beyond their community programs, University Blacks has continued to invest in the future of the club through the successful establishment of a Women’s Development Team (U19s), creating a stronger and more accessible pathway into senior women’s football. This initiative reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for participation and supporting the growth of women’s football across the VAFA. 

“The Uni Blacks are delighted to receive this recognition. It has been a fantastic year for the club on and off the field. We’re proud of having launched a Women’s Under 19s team and an additional Thirds Men’s team.” said Robert Ryan, Vice President University Blacks Football Club. 

“We are a community focused, forward-looking, inclusive place for people at all levels to play footy – this award is testament to the many people who work so hard behind the scenes to keep that culture strong.”

The VAFA congratulates everyone at University Blacks Football Club on this well-deserved recognition. 

As the July recipient of the Club Connect Club of the Month Award, University Blacks Football Club will receive a $150 Club Connect credit to help re-stock the canteen fridge.
