Week 1 of the Division 4 Women’s finals determined who would meet Mazenod in the Grand Final. With Mazenod having the week off, they eagerly awaited the winner of the Preliminary Final.

Aquinas have booked their place in the Division 4 Grand Final, defeating Wattle Park by 45 points at Whitefriars College Oval.
The Bloods had the perfect start, kicking two goals to Wattle Park’s one in the opening term to establish an early lead.
Aquinas added one goal in the second quarter through Rhiannon Walch, extending the margin to 16 points at half-time.
The home side continued their momentum in the third quarter, kicking three goals, extending the margin to 34 points at three quarter time.
Aquinas finished the game strongly in the final quarter, kicking one goal to secure their place in the Grand Final.
Emily Box was on song in front of goal, finishing with three goals, while Meg Dargan finished with two goals and Rhiannon Walch and Sarah Steiner both finished with one major each.
Aquinas coach Phil Box was delighted with his side’s bounce back after the Semi Final defeat.
“It was a great team effort and nice to bounce back after the disappointment of last week.
“Hannah Virgona gave us a lot of drive off half back. Sarah Steiner and Rhiannon Walch showed great defensive pressure in our forward 50.”
Wattle Park coach Mel Dell’Olio was disappointed but pleased with his side’s efforts throughout the year.
“Well done to Aquinas who outplayed us on the day.
“We tried our best to get back in the game after half-time but suffered several key injuries which thwarted any rhythm being formed.
“I’m proud of the team’s effort to keep competing all the way to the final siren.”

Aquinas progress to the Division 4 Women’s Grand Final against Mazenod, in what is set to be an extremely close and skilful affair.
Including the opening week of finals where Mazenod won by two points the Nodders lead the head-to-head matchups this season 2-1.
The average winning margin between these sides has been just eight points, so this weekend will come right down to the wire.
