The VAFA has released its fixture calendar for 2027, with all competitions to kick off on Saturday April 10 – two weeks after Easter, allowing for a post-Easter practice match
The VAFA congratulates Lucy Stubbings from Old Scotch, who has been nominated as the Week 20 VAFA Women’s Rising Star.
Lucy has been named among the best players in 9 of 12 Holmesglen U19 Premier games this season, kicked two goals in the Preliminary Final victory on the weekend, and made her senior debut in William Buck Premier Women’s this year.
What the club said:
Lucy joined Old Scotch via the connection between the Old Scotch Football Club and Methodist Ladies College. Lucy has been an integral member of the U19 Program, being named in the best 9 times this season, playing both in the midfield and as a forward where she has kicked 12 goals. Lucy’s standout performances earned her a Senior Debut in Rd 7. Lucy embodies a high footy IQ, reading the ball exceptionally well. Often tagged by the opposition, Lucy’s pressure, pace, composure and team-first mentality have enabled her to be a force across the Under 19 competition. Beyond the footy field, Lucy is balancing her sporting commitments with a full Year 12 VCE curriculum.
Coach Quote:
Lucy consistently embodies our team-first values, regularly putting her body on the line and thriving in the 1% efforts that make a significant difference, ensuring team success throughout the season. She is highly coachable, always looking for ways to improve, embracing feedback as an opportunity for growth and further development. Beyond her individual contributions to the Stars program, Lucy has played a key role in fostering strong connections across the U19 program, helping us build a positive and united culture that has been instrumental in the success of our U19, Reserves and Senior program this season. Lucy is a future star of our club, and we’re excited to watch her continue to grow and develop in the years ahead, both as a player and as a person.
