The Pass Volunteer of the Month – August

The VAFA is proud to celebrate the outstanding contributions of volunteers who go above and beyond to support their clubs and embody the values of our community. Each month, we receive nominations that highlight inspiring stories of dedication, leadership, and impact and July was no exception.

The Pass Volunteer of the Month for August is Dean Lovig from Hampton Rovers. 

Volunteers are at the heart and spirit of community football, and few embody that spirit more than Hampton Rovers’ Dean Lovig, who has been named The Pass Volunteer of the Month for August. 

Dean is the type of volunteer every community football organisation values. Whether it’s coordinating volunteers, helping players, supporting game day operations or keeping members informed, Dean consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the Hampton Rovers community remains connected and thriving. 

One of Dean’s major contributions throughout the 2026 season has been organising and coordinating the club’s Thursday night dinners. Bringing together a roster of parents and supporters to prepare and serve meals for players each week and Dean not only manages the logistics but is also there on the night lending a hand himself. 

These weekly dinners have become an important part of the Hampton Rovers environment, creating opportunities for players to connect, strengthening club culture and fostering a sense of belonging across players and supporters.  

Dean has also played a key role in ensuring match day operations run smoothly. He established and manages a roster of volunteer timekeepers, guaranteeing coverage for every home and away match throughout the season. Behind the scenes, he keeps parents, supporters and members engaged through weekly communications featuring match reports, club news and important updates. 

His contribution extends well beyond these responsibilities. From assisting players with insurance matters and helping set up home game luncheons to working behind the bar and stepping in wherever needed, Dean is known at Hampton for always putting his hand up to help.  

Hampton Rovers Vice President Cameron Voss said Dean’s recognition was richly deserved. 

“We’re thrilled to see Dean recognised as the VAFA Volunteer of the Month,” said Cameron Voss. 

“He does an enormous amount of work behind the scenes at Hampton Rovers and is always willing to put his hand up to help, whether it’s coordinating volunteers, assisting on game days or supporting our players and members. 

“Volunteers like Dean are the backbone of community football and we’re incredibly fortunate to have him at the Rovers.” 

Dean’s willingness to contribute wherever required, combined with his reliability and commitment to serving others, makes him an outstanding example of the volunteers who keep community football running. 

The VAFA congratulates Dean on being named The Pass Volunteer of the Month for August and thanks him for the countless hours he dedicates to making Hampton Rovers a stronger club both on and off the field.
